Check out our Fiber Media Dry Wash Towers

BD Zorb is a premium fiber based dry wash media that can be used to reduce
soap levels in Biodiesel. It's made from a special mix of premium hard woods that
have the ability to retain large amounts of soap and other contaminants commonly found
in reacted Biodiesel prior to being washed.
BD Zorb can be used to compliment your existing purification system while allowing for
a reduction in overall purification costs. The frequency of replacing the spent media will depend
on the level of impurities in your biodiesel, the amount of biodiesel treated and the size
of the purification column used. A good estimate for home brewed Biodiesel is that 15 lbs in
a 6" column will treat approximately 800-1500 gallons of raw Biodiesel.
How It Works
Specialty formulated cellulose fibers are mixed in just the right combination to absorb soap from Biodiesel as
it's passed through the BD Zorb. The special mix of wooden fibers have been optimized for maximum soap retention.
Why It's Better Than "Plain Sawdust"
BD Zorb is different than typical sawdust. BD Zorb has been kiln dried,
contains only hard woods, and has been mixed to the perfect ratio of wood chips to saw dust.
It undergoes a special quality control process when it's produced to ensure you get the best mix possible.
Absorbs Soap & Glycerin
BD-Zorb has been specially kiln dried to ensure that's it's free of any moisture. This means that it makes
an excellent dry wash media that can absorb soap, glycerin, water, catalyst, and other impurities in Biodiesel.
Keeps The Biodiesel Dry
BD-Zorb, being so dry, also won't add any water content back into your biodiesel like raw hardwoods can do.
This means your finished product stays nice and dry and ready to use!
Using BD Zorb
Like other Biodiesel dry wash fiber media, it works best when it's teamed up with a high quality
dry wash resin such as DW-R10 Ion Exchange Resin. BD Zorb
works to remove the gross soap levels while the ion exchange resin lowers the soap levels even more.
When used properly, raw Biodiesel can successfully be cleansed of nearly any detectable soap levels.
You can also use BD Zorb by itself as well and is a great dry wash media to use in small biodiesel production
setups. As long as soap levels going into the BD Zorb aren't too high (below 500 ppm), you can still
effectively remove soap levels in biodiesel down to within ASTM limits.
How Well It Works
Just 15 lbs of BD Zorb in a 6" Dry Wash Tower can remove soap from approximately 800-1500 gallons of home brewed
Biodiesel bringing it to ASTM soap levels. That's about 1600-3000 gallons from a typical box of BD Zorb.
Your results may vary depending on how much soap you produce in each batch.

In tests performed by one of our regular users of BD Zorb, they were able to lower soap levels in their
biodiesel quite a bit. Their unwashed biodiesel typically has anywhere from 250 to 400 ppm of soap content in
it but once it goes through the BD Zorb, it comes out anywhere from 0 to 10 ppm! That's well below ASTM levels!
When It Should Be Replaced
BD Zorb should be replaced when the soap levels fail to drop significantly going through the media.
Testing the biodiesel for soap content both before and after it's run through BD Zorb, you'll be able
to get a good idea of when it's time to change the media out.
Case Study
Recently, BD-Zorb was improved by the manufacturer. They switched over to a new wood source that's higher grade, has
a lower moisture content, and is mixed even more consistently than before. In studies performed by one of our commercial
Biodiesel plants that are a heavy BD-Zorb user, they're reporting vastly improved life out of the media. The gallons
of Biodiesel they're now able to treat has increased significantly.
The amount of biodiesel that can be treated that we publish below are conservative estimates, however, with the
improved BD-Zorb product, you may be able to treat significantly more gallons than indicated. As always, your results
may vary and depend on your soap levels in the biodiesel you're treating.
How Long It Will Last
If typical soap levels are at 1,000 PPM or below before going through BD Zorb,
and if it's being used in the lead column
1 lb of BD Zorb will typically treat roughly 50-90 gallons of Biodiesel.
Examples:
- 1 Box BD Zorb - treats roughly 1600-3000 gallons
- 2 Boxes BD Zorb - treats roughly 3200-6000 gallons
- 3 Boxes BD Zorb - treats roughly 4800-9000 gallons
- 4 Boxes BD Zorb - treats roughly 6400-12000 gallons
- 5 Boxes BD Zorb - treats roughly 8000-15000 gallons
Getting The Right Amount
BD Zorb is available in boxes that are loaded with roughly 28-30 lbs of BD Zorb fiber media.
Here's a general guideline for sizing how much you might require. A good estimate is
that a cellulose tower will hold approximately 14 lbs of BD Zorb per cubit feet of space.
Tower Sizing
6" x 48" Cellulose Media Tower
- Media: 15 lbs BD Zorb
- Flow Rate: Up to 18 gallons per hour
- Treats: Up to 1350 gallons
12" x 48" Cellulose Media Tower
- Media: 30-35 lbs BD Zorb
- Flow Rate: Up to 100 gallons per hour
- Treats: Up to 3100 gallons
16" Cellulose Media Tower
- Media: 150 lbs BD Zorb
- Flow Rate: Up to 300 gallons per hour
- Treats: Up to 13500 gallons
Flow Rate Recommendations
BD Zorb's flow rate can be much higher than dry wash resins, therefore, if BD Zorb
will be used with dry wash resins, simply set the flow rate for the dry wash resin. If using
BD Zorb by itself, simply refer to the flow rates above.
Made In The USA!
BD Zorb is proudly made in the USA and ships from Tennessee.
Types Of BD-Zorb Available
BD Zorb is manufactured in two varieties. One variety contains ion exchange resin beads mixed into the wood material
(much like the original Eco2Pure media), and one without resin beads. In tests performed by several of
our customers, we found that both varieties do an exceptional job but the media without the resin beads is a much
more biodegradable product and easier to dispose of when it's spent.
For these reasons, we offer BD-Zorb without the resin beads in it. This means you get a much more biodegradable
product that can be easily disposed of once it's spent. It also means that if you choose to burn the spent media
it's easier on the environment too! Plus, it's cheaper as well! So not only is our BD-Zorb a greener product, but you
get to save money too!
Should you require the variety of BD-Zorb with the resin beads in it, contact us for pricing
and details.
