Introducing The SafTest Rapid Biodiesel Testing System Measures Free Fatty Acid, Total and Free Glycerin Levels
This incredible testing system allows for quick, easy, and accurate testing of key measures important
to the Biodiesel production process. Within minutes you can get accurate readings on such things as
free fatty acid levels (FFA's) in biodiesel feedstocks and in completed biodiesel. This is incredibly
helpful in identifying just how much catalyst should be used to produce high-quality Biodiesel.
Once the Biodiesel is produced, this great testing system can then help you accurately measure total
and free glycerin levels in Biodiesel. Instead of having to use a Gas Chromatograph system, you can now
easily and accurately get a reading on conversion rates in your Biodiesel which are important for
meeting the ASTM D 6751 specifications for Biodiesel.
Using The SafTest Rapid Biodiesel Testing System
The machine will quickly print out the results of your test with incredibly accuracy.
In fact, the machine is so accurate that it's been tested by the National Renewable Energy Lab
to be within .01% accuracy when reading Total Glycerin.
The Free Fatty Acid test has been certified by the AOAC. The Total Glycerin and Free Fatty Acid tests
have also been evaluated by the NREL and are currently being submitted as standards for the ASTM testing.

How The Tests Work
Free Fatty Acid Test
Free Fatty Acid (FFA) or Acid Value (AV) is determined spectrophotometrically with a chromogen reagent
interacting with the FFA and changing its visible spectrum. This change is measured and the FFA or AV determined.
This is a primary method calibrated with known amounts of FFA.
The Limit Of Detection (LOD) is 0.02%.
Total and Free Glycerin
Total Glycerin is determined using an enzymatic reagent which digests residual glycerin and then
quanitates the break down product using a chromogenic reaction which is read spectrophotometrically.
Free Glycerin is analyzed by taking two measurements of Total Glycerin. One before washing the fuel and
one after washing the fuel. The Limit Of Detection (LOD) is 0.002%.
